A Global IP Camera Standard. Are We There Yet?

IP camera manufacturers often state categorically that high quality can only be achieved through the adoption of standards.  But is it true? Are standards a guarantee of “best quality”?

Let’s take a look at an example cited in a camera manufacturer’s white paper entitled, HDTV and video surveillance.  On page 3 it states, “…a network camera that complies with any of the given HDTV standards is guaranteed to provide a certain resolution, frame rate and color fidelity, thereby ensuring video quality at all times.”
